Class of 1964 Fifty-Year Reunion in 2014!

Seems like yesterday, doesn't it? OK, maybe a few years ago. But not 50!

So in honor of that milestone, we're planning a weekend of fun celebrations beginning with Friday, June 20. Continuing with our tradition of a Friday night casual ice breaker, this time at the Montrose Bowl, we'll have pizza, salad and garlic bread. They have soft drinks, beer and wine. And if you want music, there is a juke box. Either Friday or Saturday daytime we are planning a tour of the CV campus (you wouldn't recognize the place!) with maybe lunch afterward. We are also talking about the possibility of a golf tournament on whichever day the school tour isn't scheduled.

Saturday night is a dinner buffet at the beautiful Angeles National Golf Club. The setting is spectacular &endash; right in the middle of the old Tujunga wash with a Jack Nicklaus-designed 18-hole golf course attached. Check it out! www.angelesnational.com/

To wind down the weekend on a more casual, laid back note, we'll do a picnic at CV Park on Sunday afternoon.

Reservations are already made for Friday night at the Montrose Bowl and Saturday night at the Angeles Golf Club. The possible golf tournament and campus tour dates are still undecided right now.

We hope to do a lot of the information electronically by way of the school alumni website, Classmates and Facebook. We still have mailing addresses from the 40th reunion and will compare them to who is on those pages. Later this year or early next year we'll post a list of classmates who have not been located. Word-of-mouth is a great way to get the word out; get folks in touch. Contact information will also be given to the school. This flyer will be posted on facebook and CV Alumni pages -- www.cvfalconsalumni.com/new/ -- and any place else we can think of!

Here's to a fantastic 50-year celebration!

Occupation: Sales Manager at Southland Sod Farms
Comments: Greetings to my fellow graduates. I look back on our days at CV with great affection and I look forward to seeing you at the summer of 2001 get-together. Barbara and I have lived on an oak tree-filled, 40 acre "spread" in Temecula, California for the past 15 years. Thinking that life was getting too comfortable and predictable, we traveled to Russia in 1997 and adopted our daughter Tatiana (now 12) and our son Kon (now 8). Our life is now filled with school, cub scouts, soccer, piano - things with which most of you are all too familiar. The kids are doing great and love their new life. The web site is terrific and I have enjoyed hearing from many of you. I am saddened by the loss of many friends we knew so long ago. Would love to hear from any of you who remember me.

Robert Meaders

Santa Rosa, CA 95402
Marital Status: single
Children: no
Reunion: I have been to the 10th and 20th reunions and both were a great success

Comments: I have been struggling with employment for the last 9 years after a large brain tumor and some siezures came into my life. I was self-employed as a Service Engineer with Meaders Industrials and also had a Cornwell Tool dealership just before the siezure that found the tumor. I am working it out and have been siezure-free for 5 years because we have the medication correct now. It has been fun. Looking forward to seeing many of you again.

Robert "BJ" Meaders, 62, of Cloverdale, died November 12, 2009, at home of a sudden heart attack.

A native of La Crescenta, CA, he was the son of the late Moody and Mabel Meaders.  He was a Vietnam veteran stationed in Chu Lai & retired from his business as a Cornwell Tool distributor in the early 1990's.  He could be found almost every afternoon having iced tea in Cloverdale at the Owl Café, enjoying his friends and telling stories (some quite astonishingly true, and some, well...embellished).

BJ loved to fly and earned his private pilot's license at 18 and soon after, his commercial pilot's license.  He possessed a brilliant mind, designing alternative fuels & power for aircraft and could discuss the details of every type of aircraft ever built.  One of his favorite experiences was a personal tour of Howard Hughes' Flying Boat with Jack Real.  BJ also loved racing Karman Ghias, built his own hydroplane watercraft, and had a deep love for cats, especially Zippy.  His heritage is rooted in the southern folk-pottery craft of the Meaders Pottery Company in Cleveland, Georgia.

BJ and Tom White, (CV '64), were life-long friends ever since they met in high school.  The adventures they went on and the tales they lived to tell were...well...full of life to its fullest.  When

Tom unexpectedly died in March, 2008, I saw a spark go out of my brother's life as it did in mine.  Tom held a very special place in our hearts.

BJ never married but had great friends that enriched his life - Tom, Jurgen, Kathleen, Marvin, Jeannie, Gwen, Nancy and many, many others.  He was a very caring and compassionate person and is greatly missed.  He is survived by his sister, Jan Meaders, (CV '68), his niece Erin and her husband AJ, and his nephew Cory and his wife Anne-Marie.

Occupation: Own and operate a marketing consulting firm, The Looking Glass Group
Reunion: I guess with all of my hopping around the country I was one of those on the list of lost classmates for many years, but I'm looking forward to attending our 40th reunion in August. It will be my first! I hope to see some of my close and not so close friends. To those of you who read this but can't attend, I would love to hear from you. Also, if you are ever at the intersection of I-40 and I-75, you are quite close to us and we have extra room. Give me a call.
Comments: I've just taken another look at the web site and the information many of you have provided. It's fun to hear about your lives and remember our too brief time together. Have we lived through extraordinary times and was there something special about La Crescenta in the late 50's and early 60's, or is it just my imagination? I've always been grateful for that community, the school and all of you for a great foundation for the life that followed. Anyway, after HS my family moved to Orange County, I went to college in St. Louis, spent a couple of years in the Army and never got back to La Crescenta. Eventually I ended up in New York City where I met and married my wife, went to graduate school, began a career in advertising and where our first child was born. In 1980, the advertising business took us to Dallas for six years where our second child was born and my wife co-founded a stationery company that is still going strong today. In 1986, some friends and business associates invited me to move to Knoxville, TN, to work in custom publishing and our first reaction was, "Where?" Still, we took a flyer and have been here ever since. In 1990 I started my own marketing consulting company and we have been very happy in the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains. It's still very strange to be in a southern town after growing up in LA and spending 10 years in New York, but it's a great place to live. Nonetheless, we miss New York and I miss California (the beach!). Our older daughter lives and works in NYC and our younger daughter just graduated from Boston University. They are spectacular young women ( he said, proudly). We love to travel but there's rarely enough time. Maybe going to China this fall. Dick Nye [June 29, 2004]

Occupation: Subcontracts Administrator at H.R. Textron for 26 years.
Reunion: Forty years after CVHS and still going strong. We attended the 20th and 30th reunion and they were a blast. It's great to see all the old friends. Please keep me in tune for the 40th. I can't wait to see all of you.

Dennis passed away in August 25, 2008. This was published on September 3, 2008 9:21 AM PDT

Dennis was born in West Hollywood, Calif. on Dec. 22, 1946. On Aug. 25 he graduated into glory to be with his lord Jesus, where his parents await.
He was preceded in death by his loving parents, Erwin and F. Ruth Omohundro. He graduated from Cresenta Valley High, Class of 1964. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1965 to 1969. He was aboard the USS?Ranger in the Supply Department S-6 Division. He served his country with pride. When he returned home from the Navy he worked for the U.S. Postal Service. In 1972 he met his wife while they were co-workers at the same company and that is where their love began. That same year his career in aerospace began with H.R. Textron and 31 years later he retired.
On Sept. 16, 1972 he married his wife Ruthe. They have been married for 36 years and every seven years they renewed their wedding vows because in the Bible the number 7 means "complete." They just renewed their vows for the fifth time in 2007.
He loved his football, basketball, and, of course, golf. He loved going to live theatre and acting in community theatres and in many church programs. He was working on getting his AA degree with hopes of one day obtaining a Master's Degree in history. He was a wonderful and loving husband, father, grandfather, nephew and cousin.
Dennis was survived by his wife, Ruthe, his son Eric Michael, wife Danielle, his daughter April Marie, fiance Arturo Orona, his grandchildren Ruben Michael, Sienna Rayne, Jared Michael, Austin Caleb and Arianna Elizabeth, his sister-in-law Pamela, husband Don, his brothers-in-law David, wife Diane and Bob, wife Nancy, his aunt Grace McClusky, his cousins Bill McClusky, Mary Louis Barker and Family, Don Rankin and Family, his nieces Lisa and Kelly, his great-nieces Jordan, Kylee, Kyra, Rebecca, Madison, Mackenzie, Elizabeth and Audrey, his nephews David, wife Stacy, Jim and Steven, wife Sheri and great-nephew Cameron.
He touched many lives with his humor and laugh. He was loved so much by family and many friends. He will truly be missed, but we know he is in glory and with those he loved who went before him. We know he would want us to remember him with a smile. I'm going to miss you, Papa Bear, but my love for you will always be eternal!!
The family would like to give a special thank you to Optimal Hospice Care, KVHD, and those who took tender loving care of our loved one. The viewing will be at Sierra Mortuary and Funeral Home in Lake Isabella on Friday, Sept. 5, from 3 to 7 p.m. The memorial will be held on Saturday, Sept. 6 at 11:00 a.m. at Four Square Family Life Center in Wofford Heights. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to help with funeral costs and the American Cancer Society. Psalms 23.

Larry Phillips

Visiting this CV website for the first time now, in 2009, I see I could have paid tribute here to my dear brother, Larry Phillips, many years ago. Larry passed away in 1990 after a courageous fight with cancer.

Larry and his wonderful wife, Eileen, had married in 1967. He worked as a top buyer and managerial rep. for the College Book Company. He and Eileen had three wonderful children: Chad, Julie and Keri, my nephew and nieces…all grown and successful adults now.

Larry was a very bright, caring and sensitive guy, a little reserved at times, but with a special talent to interact in the people business he was in. In his free time, Larry found a quiet, fulfilling pleasure in landscaping the family home, and in adding to, while carrying on, cooking traditions that we had both enjoyed as we sat down to the family dinner after chemistry experiments or drill team practice in our CV days.

Very close when we were kids, we had just started to reconnect again in the years prior to his death. Fortunately, there was time, now as adults, for us both to appreciate and rekindle the love that had been so rich in our youth.

I'm sure he would want to give a tearful hug to his family, and a warm "Hello", also, to all who were his friends.

Loving to fish as Larry did, I figure Larry's just gone fishin'.

Comments: Yeah yeah - I changed my name. Everyone now knows me as'Mark'. After playing music and recording for a number of years I went back to school and rec'd. my BA @ Cal State LA. I then worked in advertising as an art director. Left LA in the mid seventies and migrated to Eugene, Oregon. Now live in the remains of an ancient forest in Cascade foothills of Washington. I still do advertising and design work as a free-lance art director. My wife, Ruth, is from the Phillipines. She was 3 years old when we all graduated from CVHS in '64! We have no children. However we do have four cats, (one is helping me type this) an Arabian horse (see photo), and two miniature Spotted Asses (equus assinus) common to North Africa. I am the 'wrangler' - make that 'stable hand' - since my office is at home where I can look after them. I can see their stable from my office window. Doubt if I will make a personal appearance at any 'reunion activities' as I seldom return to California. I! don't have any "words of wisdom" to share or pass along since even if one did know some of the Secrets of the Universe, it would be foolish to go blabbing them about considering the evil lunatics who have seized power these days! Keep your head down, stay safe.

Reunion: I would really love to hear from everyone and really enjoy this website. I really regret having lost contact with so many people. I live a little different lifestyle than where I started in La Crescenta but I always knew I wanted the wide open spaces (so the song goes). We operate an alfalfa farm in Moses Lake and run cattle on the Colville Indian Reservation (my husband is a Colville) and we both work too. I am the computer section supervisor at Grand Coulee Dam and Gene is the Superintendent for the Bureau of Indian Affairs on the Colville Reservation. I had 2 kids when we got married and my husband also had two so we have the modern blended step-family and it seems to work most of the time. They are all grown now and we are starting on grandchildren with one so far. As you can guess, we are very busy but not too busy to hear from you and where your path has led you.
Comments: Hello everyone. I am retired now from the Dam but still farm and ranch. Would love to hear from all of you. [October 20, 2005]

Comments: I have been blessed to be married to the same great woman for over 41 years. We have 3 wonderful daughters and 6 grandkids (3 boys, 3 girls). Life has been kind as we enjoy several CVHS alums in our area - Joe Ibarra, Bob Engberg and Terry Otis. Joe's reunion party in Paso Robles, June of 2008, was a great time for about 50 of us old Falcons. Thanks Joe and Vicki for all your hard work, it was great to see many classmates from the "second to none" 1964 class. May God keep and bless you all. [June 25, 2008]

Comments: Not sure if anyone remembers me, as I left CVHS in January 1963 and moved with my family to northern California. Graduated from Miramonte High School in Orinda and UC Berkeley with a degree in English. My heart was always with Crescenta Valley, and I attended the 10th and 20th reunions thanks to keeping in touch with Laurene (Kintz)Harrison. I've encountered a few CVHS alums over the years, including Craig Semingson, Jack McCreary, and Alan Pryzybla during our freshman year at Cal. In 1968, while eating lunch on the Cal campus, I looked up and standing before me was Larry Allard who had just returned from Viet Nam. Ran into Rhio Ossola in Long's drugstore a few years later. Rhio is quite well known in regional theater in Walnut Creek. Sandy (Smith) Ryder and I make an annual trek to the Oregon Shakespeare Festival in Ashland. Two years ago Marilyn (Crane) Morrish joined my book club. Couldn't figure out why she looked so familiar. It only took us a year to reali! ze that that we had gone to the same high school at the same time. Left my job as assistant vice president with an insurance company in January, tired of 15 years of business travel. Now taking some time off for fun, but definitely not retired. Somehow along the way forgot to get married. Inspite or perhaps because of staying single I've had a very happy life, enjoying wonderful friendships, cultural interests, and international travel. Some memorable events include being evacuated from an underground BART train during the 1989 SF earthquake, being stranded in Paris on 9/11/2001, and completing the Honolulu Marathon in December 2001 (slow but thorough). I'm truly saddened by the premature deaths of so many wonderful classmates who will be forever young in our memories.

Remarks: I left CVHS in January 1963, so I will use my junior year picture.

John Rondot

John Rondot, my best life-long friend, passed away in May 2007 after a long battle with cancer. John played center on the CV varsity football team and married Diana Andrews (daughter of Ted Andrews) in 1964. They had a daughter Terry. John and Diana divorced sometime in the early 80's. John leaves behind his wife Debbie, daughter Terry, and 3 sisters. John worked in the new car sales most of his life. He attended college for a few years working on an engineering degree, but could not support his family and go to school, so he never finished. In high school, John, Jim Nestell, Steve Kerrin and I use to hang out together quite a bit. John was a great friend over the years. He had a keen understanding of people and a unique perspective about our society and life. I know I will miss him every day the rest of my life. -- Ron Conero, class of '64

Comments: Great web site. Brings back many memories. My last name was Ruggles while at C.V. but Uncle Sam found a few discrepancies including the fact I was not legally adopted so they reverted my name to David Holland when I went into the Navy (submarine service). I like it better. Would like to hear from all of you that remember. I left C.V. and went to Hoover in '63. I have lived in the Houston area for the past 12 years. Married to a great Italian gal named Tina and have to great kids still at home.

When I was a little girl, my father took me flying and showed me how to reach for the stars.  He was the most amazing and talented person that I have ever known and he taught me how to love.  He always was and forever will be my inspiration and my hero.  He is loved and missed every day.     Sincerely,            Angela Pierson

He was my best friend in Viet Nam and for that matter the best friend I had during my four years in the Marine Corp. I have tried the web sites of his children and the phone number of his home in hopes of reaching his wife. Neither web sites nor phone numbers are current. I would like to speek to his wife Trisha, his daughter Angela Pierson, or his sister Linda Lew or any other member of Brian's family. Sally Scholte

Sally joined the Peace Corps, having learned Farsi [Persian] from her first husband, Bijan. (Not the perfume guy).  She served in Iran in the 70's where she met her second husband, an American fellow volunteer. Sally was working as a social worker in the Phoenix, Arizona area when she died of pneumonia in 1982 or 1983.  She had called in sick that morning. A co-worker went to see her that day. She refused to go to the hospital, asking for fresh orange juice, according to her husband who talked later, distraught, with Kathy (Young) Carder. Her father had died previously of a heart attack.

She had no children.

Remembered fondly by

It is hard to believe that it has been 45 years now since we graduated! Time does fly, doesn' it? After graduation I lived and worked in the Montrose/Glendale area until I married in 1972. Then moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico where I lived until 2000. Got divorced and relocated here in Los Osos close to my parents, who had already moved up here in 1978 to retire. Met a wonderful lady here in late 2000 and we were married in late 2001. She is a graduate of Torrance High and the love of my life.

Jeff Thomas

On April 5th, 2006, Jeff Thomas was killed in a car accident as he was
returning to his home in Santa Barbara from playing in a tennis tournament
in Palm Springs.
He is survived by his wife Seana, daughter Alexandria, MSW San Diego State, and son Spencer, a freshman at Santa Barbara High School. Jeff practiced law in Santa Barbara for thirty years, enjoying tennis, sailing, and Thursday night poker games with his many friends. He was truly one of the good guys.
We often spoke of the impact of CV on how our lives had evolved, and he treasured his friends and memories from that time. Anyone who would like more information, or to contact the family can e-mail me at
gripp@promediaus.com.
Remembered by Tom Gripp, class of '64.

Marital Status: widowed
Children: Children: daughter, Marla Renee (04/01/68) Grandchildren: grand-daughter, Ainsleigh Jayne (02/22/07); god-grandson, Yu-uki (09/14/99)
Occupation: Director, Promotions/Patron Services, UCSD Deptartment of Theatre and Dance (ranked as best master?s theatre training program west of the Hudson River.)
Reunion: It's hard to believe that we are approaching a 45th year post-high school. High school reunions are still very scary to me.

Comments: My high school years were particularly difficult for me. I was a very bright and very moody teenager and had difficulty "connecting." Characteristic of me, I think, well beyond high school years. My one love was for the arts -- performing and visual. Many years passed by before I even really understood that I was an artist trying to fit into environments which seemed utterly foreign and even dangerous to me. In August 2000, I re-connected with one of my high school "loves" the performing arts, where I finally found a home that satiates my often restless spirit! Prior to the discovery of UC San Diego's Theatre & Dance Department, I'd worked in R&D for educational programs at UC Irvine, Washington International University; Pepperdine University and Antioch University. As a consultant, I served as senior writer and editorial consultant on the international NSF grant "The Mitigation of Natural Hazards: a Technology Assessment"; and in R&D for private schools and companies internationally. I completed a double major in education administration and comparative literature from Antioch University via UCLA, and did graduate studies in Pepperdine's Executive MBA-International Program, as a member of the Gamma Group. A-vocationally, I am a visual artist who has used the VUE method to transmit my love for art to all age groups as a docent at SDMA and SD Contemporary in La Jolla. I also volunteer teach American English and Culture at the university's International Center. Within the past few years, my father, my brother, my husband, three much beloved cats, and my best buddy Boston Terrier, Kelly -- all died. With each passing, I've learned so much more about living! I am forever learning how to live. I am eternally grateful for all I've been given -- past and present. [October 19, 2008]

Reunion: It was great seeing classmates at our 40th reunion! Took me right back to high school days. I'm looking forward to the next get-together.
Comments: Update 2009: I retired from Gap IT management in 2005 (I was laid off, actually, but couldn't bring myself to go back to the corporate world). Simplifying and organizing my life, remodeling my house and yard, and volunteering entertained me for a while, and then I went back to school. Last year after completing a year of certification courses and internship at a local college I started my new career as a personal fitness trainer. I went on to get two national certifications from NASM (Certified Personal Trainer and Corrective Exercise Specialist) and currently work about 15 hours a week training older women. ("Older" is relative; they're almost all younger than me.) I highly recommend going back to school to stimulate the aging brain! And I love my new career, which gets me out of the house, enables me to help people, and provides me with endless learning opportunities. Still volunteering too. My daughter Sarah is now a lawyer and lives in San Francisco. I'm a very proud mom! [March 28, 2009]

E-mail: DWProds@aol.com

Marital Status: Married
Spouse Name: Michele
Children: Michael - January, 1983, Andrew - January, 1986
Occupation: Producer, Educator at Dana White Productions
Reunion: I'm deeply moved by seeing us as high school students on this website. Because I moved to Evanston, Illinois, during our senior year, I missed graduating with all of you and for the most part have lost track. I've crossed paths with Donna (Edwards) Gage, Phil Channing, Phil Schultz and Bruce Williams since moving back to California. But I have Gil Richardson from the Class of '65 to thank for pointing me to this website. He also showed me our senior yearbook, which I had not previously seen. What a long strange trip it's been.
I spent six years in the Navy, including several tours in VietNam. After discharge, I worked in rock-and-roll underground radio and then returned to college on the GI Bill, graduating from Occidental then doing an MA at USC. For most of my career, I've produced marketing and education media. Now I'm pretty much doing educational work and a few years ago, returned to school to complete my PhD. I plan to continue developing educational and curriculum development products and hope that I can manage without having to seek corporate underwriting.
I've worked as a writer, recording engineer and photographer. For years I've been a principle source of imagery for McGraw-Hill's books and I participate locally in the Venice Art Walk fundraiser as a photo collage artist. One of my larger photo collages was presented to the Getty's COO by Occidental College a couple years back after the Getty's opening. I continued to raise my two sons after my 20-year marriage ended. Then, after four years solo, I met my wife, Michele. We were married last August in Ojai. Today, we live in Santa Monica with my sons and our dog Bodhi. Our home is filled with environments to connect and rekindle the fires. Life feels blessed!! It has transformed once again and like a Phoenix reborn, is taking to the open skies. I hope we travel the same way sometime and can share our stories. Peace be with you all! [March 10, 2010]

Tom White

Tom passed away on March 7, 2008, the result of a stroke. Most who knew Tom will remember his off-beat and irreverent sense of humor. He was one of the funniest people I have ever known. Those of us who knew him best, however, remember much more. He was an insightful observer of human behavior. He was also a curious student who always wanted to know the nature of things. His motto seemed to be; "If it's knowable, then I can learn it"...."If it's fixable, then I can fix it"...and "If it's doable, then I can do it". His "can do" approach to things was and is an inspiration to me. He was also a kind, loyal and loving friend. Many are the times he dropped what he was doing to go to the aid of another. If you were lucky enough to count Tom White as your friend, then you were truly lucky. Tom is survived by his father, Jim... his brothers, Jim, Steve, Randy and Charley... his long time companion, Mary Beth Cottrell... and by the many friends who love and will miss him always. Submitted by Fred Peterson; CVHS class of 1966
