area to start own company focusing on "smart growth" and
Firewise land use planning. Developer of training software
that is the foundation of the Firewise workshops being held
throughout the USA (6 in California in 2003).
Joined the Firewise Communities National Management Team,
that is comprised of a unique group of expertise that keep
our effort fun and exciting while continuing to build on
continued sucess. Accepted the Special Achievement in GIS
Award from ESRI (July 2002]) on behalf of the program.
The program also has a movie due for release in April
"Keeper of the Flame", a possible TV series and has been
selected to be honored with postage stamp in 2004. Firewise
has been promoted by the last two Presidential
administrations, federal agencies, Congress, the Western
Governors Association and the National Association of State
Foresters as the proactive solution to addressing the
wildland/urban interface fire problem. Currently developing
a Geospatial Landscape Analysis Center and software
applications with the University of Montana that will assist
communities in Firewise planning activities, Disaster
Mitigation, Emergency Response and Homeland Security. Our
vision is to proactively ensure the protection of "community
values" while maximizing the overall protection levels.
Attended 20th reunion with my fiancee that became my wife in
November 1995. We have had a wonderful seven+ years of
marriage raising two very special boys (Ryan 6, Aaron 4),
who are as loving and caring of others as their mother. Our
family loves the Temecula area and periodic return visits to
the Seattle area.
Work allows me to work from home but requires extensive
travel throughout the USA including Hawaii and Alaska. While
my work is my passion, I would love to have more time to
share with my wife and sons. They are growing up so fast.
Spent a wonderful weekend visiting Larry and Laurie Kirchman

Comments: Time flies. Jerry and I are now working on 23 yrs
together. Shadow the cat is gone, Buster the dog is doing
well. Jerry and I are still involved with church and have
been blessed with the warm and active community of faith
there. I'm in the fourth year of a four year program called
EfM (Education for Ministry); no I'm not going into the
ministry, it has been a good learning experience for me.
After merges, consolidations, outsourcing, I am finally in
the category of "DOWNSIZED" and am looking for a job and yes
I have expanded my horizons. Looks like I won?t be returning
to the IT field any time soon, as they are still cutting and
off shoring more jobs along with not hiring. The geriatric
warden duties, looking after a few neighbors is now over as
they have passed on to the next life. Arranging their
funerals was an interesting experience, three
funerals/burials for unrelated people in under six months.
One did not have any money and I was able to have
arrangements for $724.01. Talk about shopping around, now
those chapters are over. I do miss my wonderful
conversations with them and their stories. My mother is
still in the same house and active as ever. My brothers are
doing well as are my nieces and nephews. I still have my
shoebox rental houses that keep me busy with the usual
tenant stuff and off the street. I still want to know where
everyone finds the time for 'fun' things. The only person I
have really stayed in touch with during the years after
graduating from CVHS was Dottie (Kringel) West, we've known
each other since we were 3. I enjoyed the 30th reunion, it
was really nice to get re-connected with a few people I had
not seen in a long time. Since then, one has gotten married,
other friends have adopted a child, others have been
downsized like myself. Though we seem to be losing contact a
little, we still keep each other informed. Nice to have the
foundation as to the community we grew up in. Looking
forward to the next chapter! Praying for a better tomorrow.
