how life can play some cruel tricks! As the Rod Stewart song

Reunion: I didn't know what to expect at the 30 year reunion
since I missed both the 10th and the 20th. I feel so blessed
that Denise Messenger kept after me to attend along with the
support of my husband, Craig...basically I figured I would
not be remembered. This decision was harder to deal with
than any/all of my birthdays. I made great reconnections
with friends I have not seen in so many years. What a great
opportunity, I am glad I made the choice I did. I had a
blast and wish it could have been longer.
Comments: After I got over my jet lag, our reunion felt like
a step back in time. All that attended looked very much the
same and it seemed thirty years just vanished. Even though
we are older we all picked up conversations and lives where
we left off. It was truly amazing.

Reunion: Both reunions were interesting for a variety of
reasons, but mainly because it made me ask the hard
self-analysis question of "Why didn't I spend more time
getting to know more people in my class?" Was I so
self-absorbed or was I shy? At the reunions I really enjoyed
getting to know those for whom I never knew at all or just
did not know well. I wished that I took the time back in
'78. Well, maybe this is an important life lesson which I
can pass on to my children.
Comments: I moved to San Diego in 1980 to attend SDSU, where
I graduated in 1985 with a BS degree in Business
Adminsitration. I love San Diego's weather and casualness,
and never want to live anywhere else. Lucky I married
someone who feels the same way, so it looks like we will
retire here some day, but in the meantime, Chris and I are
working hard trying to balance raising our boys and working
full time.

Comments: Life is always busy isn't it? Where did the 30
years go since High School? Well for me it's been something
like this: I went to Hawaii after High School with my
buddies Marcella Morgan, Lori (Westerholm) Misi, and Nancy
(Chandler) Johnson. I was also a Bob's Big Boy waitress for
a time. This was truly 'The Wonder Years' wasn't it? In the
early 80's I got married and was a stay-at-home PTA Mom for
nearly 16 years. I was lucky to have the early years at home
with my son. These were the 'Rollercoaster Years' of my
life, full of incredible highs and lows. In the mid-90's, I
faced raising a son on my own, so I went back to school and
was a full-time computer science student at California
Lutheran University, graduating when I was almost 40. This
time of my life my son and I fondly called the 'Ghetto
Years'. For the past (almost) nine years I've been working
at General Dynamics - AIS in Thousand Oaks, CA, first as a
Software Engineer and currently as a Systems Engineer. My
son attends college locally and is one great guy. It is fun
to see his adult life beginning. What will I call this time
of my life? The 'Office Space years', perhaps, but hey! it
pays the mortgage. My life's journey has had its ups and
downs, but I have no regrets. I've enjoyed reading all of
your stories as it makes me realize we are all still the
same great people we were during the 'Wonder Years' at
CVHS.
Reunion: I attended the 10 year reunion, the 20 year family
picnic and plan on attending the 30th. Thank you, Tia (and
committee) for all of your hard work! Hope to see you all
there on October 18, 2008.

Darren Silversparre
Sadly Darren passed away on the 9th of February from
complications from a stroke. Darren was married to Gay
Mosure, also class of 1978. Services are Saturday, Feb.
14th, 2009, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in
Tujunga at 10:30 am. Graveside services are at the San
Fernando Mission. He worked at the Union 76 station that was
owned by his father in La Canada for 31 years on Foothill
and Angeles Crest Hwy.

Comments: This past year has been a doozy. Vince and I
decided to make our dream of living at the beach come true,

diagnosed with tonsil cancer, very rare for someone my age.
During our time in Redondo Beach and while I was undergoing
treatment, Vince and I decided we missed the Santa Clarita
Valley, so we've moved back: to Stevenson Ranch. Both of my
sons are in college and Vince's daughter lives with her mom,
so we are empty-nesters. I've just been given the all-clear
from the doctors and am so grateful to those of you who
wrote or called to offer encouragement. I feel great! I'm
currently substituting for the Hart District, but will be
teaching Special Education English at Saugus High School in
the fall. I am so looking forward to seeing everyone at the

less traveled. For 1 1years, my previous job took me all
over the US, to Belgium, Germany, Switzerland, Italy,

Then they unceremoniously canned me. Well, piss off! After a
few short lived jobs, I finally got up the nerve to strike
out on my own. I decided that being an employee lacks a
certain "Je ne se qua". (Thank you Mrs. Packard!) Self
employed since 2000, now working on building my painting
contractor business (w/ Mike Overton.) That road is
definitely not for the weak at heart! But highly rewarding
in the "I did it my way" way. My daughter lives with her mom
in Burbank and goes to Burroughs. She won't let me go to the
football game against CV. What happens to girls when they
become teenagers? She's going to drive me to an early grave.
But she will come out fine. Peg and I have been "getting
married" for years. One day we'll finalize our plans, and
then she can have my other ring. We live on a small ranch in
Saugus. It's a regular "Animal Farm."
Reunion information: Great to see everyone at the reunions.
So many people look the same as 30 years ago! It must be the
La Crescenta air. Does anyone still go ice blocking? Or play
Risk on the roof of the Bonaventure? Count me in, as
long as I can be in bed by 9
